Item #: SCP-5484
Containment Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All shipments of Celevil are to be inspected by Foundation agents embedded in retail locations that offer the medication. Any instances of SCP-5484 these agents discover are to be removed from the shipments and transported to Site-768, where they should be kept in a High Value Storage Locker (HVSL). Thirty-two (32) instances of SCP-5484 are currently held at Site-768.
If instances of SCP-5484-1 survive the initial attack by SCP-5484-2 and escape SCP-5484-3, they are to be taken into Foundation custody and amnesticized as soon as all effects of SCP-5484 cease.
All individuals who interact with an instance of SCP-5484-2, should it successfully kill its corresponding instance of SCP-5484-1 and make its way out of SCP-5484-3, should be amnesticized following its eventual self termination or acquisition by the Foundation.
Individual instances of SCP-5484-2 are to be kept in standard 5 x 5 m humanoid containment units. Three (3) Two (2) instances are currently contained within Site-768. To prevent self termination, instances should be kept in protective gear typically used on those with severe suicidal tendencies. Instances should be force fed by D-Class personnel twice per day. These personnel should be made aware that SCP-5484-2 are prone to attempt to bite or otherwise lash out at them during this process.
Experimentation with SCP-5484 or SCP-5484-2 requires authorization from either a researcher of at least Level 3 or Dr. Juliana Rivera, the head researcher for SCP-5484.
Description: SCP-5484 is related to an over-the-counter medication, colloquially known as Celevil. According to Ludwig Industries, the pharmaceutical company responsible for the sale of Celevil, it is intended to relieve the following symptoms:
- Pain
- Inflammation
- Migraines
- Headaches
SCP-5484 is an anomalous drug visually identical to Celevil that can be found in roughly 0.8% of all shipments of the medication. Though it is impossible to distinguish individual SCP-5484 capsules from Celevil capsules, SCP-5484 packages lack a serial number or any other individual identifiable markings.
It is currently unknown how SCP-5484 ends up among the shipments, though investigations are ongoing. Investigations have thus far discovered that no employees of Ludwig Industries seem to be aware of the existence of SCP-5484.
Though the ingestion of SCP-5484 relieves the same symptoms as Celevil, it produces a number of anomalous phenomena. For one, the individual who consumed SCP-5484, hereby referred to as SCP-5484-1, develops a number of side effects, which have been seen in 100% of cases. These symptoms include:
- Overwhelming tiredness
- Extreme paranoia
- Severe mood swings
- Difficulty concentrating
- Extreme feelings of guilt
- Delusions and hallucinations
- Suicidal thoughts
Some time after SCP-5484 starts affecting SCP-5484-1, a clone of SCP-5484-1 is spontaneously produced. This clone will be referred to as SCP-5484-2 for the remainder of this document. SCP-5484-2 is visually identical to SCP-5484-1, aside from a few incredibly minor alterations. A full list of observed alterations can be found below.
- Slightly different hair color
- Minimal change in eye color
- A difference of 3-5 kg in weight
- A difference of 2 cm in height
SCP-5484-2 first appears to instances of SCP-5484-1 moments after the onset of the side effects of SCP-5484. Upon SCP-5484-2's first manifestation, a temporal, spatial pocket is simultaneously created. This pocket is referred to as SCP-5484-3.
Through experimentation with SCP-5484-3, Foundation researchers have discovered that cameras are still able to operate while in the anomaly. However, no individuals other than SCP-5484-1 and SCP-5484-2 can enter the space, which has been determined to be roughly 300 meters in circumference. Researchers have also determined that while SCP-5484-3 seems to exists in a different plane of existence than the surrounding reality, it remains connected to the reality where it spawns, allowing individuals within it to re-enter their original plane of existence by simply exiting SCP-5484-3's range of effect.
SCP-5484-2 will first manifest roughly 40 to 45 meters away from SCP-5484-1. Once SCP-5484-2 has entered SCP-5484-1's field of vision, it will proceed to charge towards them, reaching speeds of approximately 20-25 kmph. In 80% of observed cases, this has caused instances of SCP-5484-1 to enter a panicked state and desperately attempt to escape SCP-5484-3. In 15% of cases, SCP-5484-1 stand still, locked in fear. In the remaining 5% of cases, 5484-1 will race towards SCP-5484-2 themselves.
If SCP-5484-2 is able to reach SCP-5484-1, it will attempt to kill them by administering severe blunt force trauma, typically focusing on the cranium. SCP-5484-2 will continue to bludgeon the instance of SCP-5484-1 well after death, continuing until the cranium has been effectively flattened. Interestingly, instances of SCP-5484-3 will not use weapons while attacking instances of SCP-5484-1, even if weapons are readily available and would provide a substantial benefit during combat. Instances of SCP-5484-2 seem to only engage in hand-to-hand combat, at least while battling their corresponding SCP-5484-1 entity.
Though it is rarely observed, instances of SCP-5484-1 are sometimes able to kill the instance of SCP-5484-2 pursuing them or escape SCP-5484-4. If this occurs, all side effects caused by the ingestion of SCP-5484 will cease within 5-6 hours. Afterwards, instances of SCP-5484-1 will typically describe the experience as a "bad drug trip," believing the instance of SCP-5484-3 they encountered to be a figment of their imagination, even if SCP-5484-3 was able to substantially injure them.
On the other hand, if SCP-5484-2 is able to successfully kill SCP-5484-1, it will then go to SCP-5484-1's most recent place of residence, where it will assume their life, engaging in activities that SCP-5484-1 would typically do themselves, such as participating in their hobbies and regularly going to work. SCP-5484-2 instances anomalously seem to have all of SCP-5484-1's memories and mannerisms. There has not yet been enough research into the instances to determine whether they believe themselves to be SCP-5484-1 or are simply playing the part.
If SCP-5484-1 had children or was otherwise a caretaker, SCP-5484-2 will commit acts similar to those shown by those with Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP)1, medically abusing those in its care. SCP-5484-2 instances are also likely to berate, belittle, and otherwise mentally and emotionally abuse those in their care.
If SCP-5484-1 was not a caretaker, SCP-5484-2 will actively seek out individuals to care for, even going so far as to leave their current place of employment and start working at a hospital, daycare, or retirement home.
After a period of roughly two to three months, SCP-5484-2 will start to show SCP-5484's typical side effects themselves, and its mental health will begin to degrade. SCP-5484-3 will start to act impulsively, engaging in erratic, self-destructive behavior. During this time, SCP-5484-2 will continue to harm those in its care until they have succumb to injuries or illnesses caused by SCP-5484-2's treatment of them, or until its harmful behavior is discovered by another individual, such as a family friend or co-worker.
At the moment its behavior is uncovered or those in its care die, SCP-5484-2 will attempt to commit suicide by administering severe damage to the cranium. In order to accomplish this, SCP-5484-2 instances will often repeatedly slam their head into a hard surface. If they survive the initial attempt due to loss of consciousness, instances will attempt other forms of suicide, all of which involve direct damage to the cranium.
Discovery: SCP-5484 was initially discovered on December 6, 2018, following the suicide of ██████ █████, a nurse at ████████ Memorial Hospital in ████████, Connecticut. ██████ █████ had recently been reported to her superiors for medical malpractice following the death of four of the hospital's patients. The nurse's co-workers reported that near the end of her life, her mental health had suddenly started to severely degrade. Foundation agents embedded in the hospital passed on this information, which led to an investigation that uncovered SCP-5484.
Addendum 5484.1: SCP-5484-3 instances have also been observed to attempt to self-terminate if an individual is able to determine that they truly aren't SCP-5484-1.
Addendum 5484.2: In cases where SCP-5484-3 have entered Foundation custody, they have been unresponsive during interviews, and have attempted to self-terminate whenever the opportunity arises.
Addendum 5484.3: Extensive testing of SCP-5484-3's physicality has revealed instances to be structurally identical to humans, with no anomalous traits present, apart from their behavior.
Interview 5484.1
Researcher Dr. Juliana Rivera conducted an interview with █████ Nakamura, a victim of mistreatment from an instance SCP-5484-2. Nakamura, who was 5 years old at the time of the interview, is the son of a deceased instance of SCP-5484-1.
Begin log
Dr. Rivera: Hey, █████. Can I call you █████?
Nakamura: (nods) Mhm.
Dr. Rivera: Alright, good. I just want to ask you a few questions about your mom. Is that okay?
Nakamura: (nods)
Dr. Rivera: Okay. Can you tell me when you started feeling sick?
Nakamura: (remains silent for 10 seconds)
Dr. Rivera: It's okay, █████. (whispers) I want to help you start feeling better. But I need to know what made you start feeling bad, okay?
Nakamura: (whispers) My tummy started hurting a— a while ago. I don't rememb— I don't know when.
Dr. Rivera: (nods, continues to whisper) Okay. Do you remember why it hurt?
Nakamura: (whispering) Mommy started giving me medicine during lunch time. She said— she said it would make me big and strong.
Dr. Rivera: (nods, puts a hand to the side of her mouth while continuing to whisper) Did it make you feel big and strong?
Nakamura: (shakes his head) It made me feel like I was going to throw up. All the time. I felt real bad.
Dr. Rivera: Okay, okay. Did mommy do anything else weird?
Nakamura: Mommy got real mad sometimes. Madder than ever. She'd get real mad, and she'd yell, but then she'd get really sad, and she'd cry.
Dr, Rivera: Was Mommy like that when she first started giving you medicine?
Nakamura: (shakes his head)
Dr. Rivera: Alright. Did you ever—
Nakamura: (interrupting) Can I see Mommy?
Dr. Rivera: Not right now, sweetie. I've got just a few more questions.
Nakamura: (sniffling) I wan— want to see Mommy.
Dr. Rivera: I'm sorry sweetheart. Just a few more minutes, okay? I promise.
Nakamura: (still sniffling) O— okay.
End log
Immediately following the interview, the instance of SCP-5484-2 masquerading as Nakamura's mother successfully self-terminated by intentionally choking on her food during a feeding. Nakamura was given amnestics and released to ███ █████ Foster Care in ███████, Nevada.
Testing Log 5484.1
D-8792, a forty-seven year old Caucasian male, was instructed to ingest one capsule of SCP-5484. After doing so, D-8792 was instructed to report any ill symptoms. Approximately 37 minutes after first ingesting the instance of SCP-5484, D-8792 reported an overwhelming sense of tiredness, and insisted that someone else was in the room, despite cameras not noticing anything strange.
Begin log
D-8792: (to Dr. Rivera) I'm not alone in here, I'm telling you.
Dr. Rivera: The cameras aren't picking up anything.
