Potion of Healing (makes 4 doses)
Welcome to the mystical world of alchemy where if you can think it you can make it! All you need are the right materials. As a healing potion is one of the most common alchemical products, its something every new alchemist learns early in their study.
Materials needed
1/3rd tail of a small dragon newt to warm up the user.
3 fangs of a storm wolf to rejuvenate energy.
5 mistbloom petals to relive pain.
3 pinches of ground spirit root (home grown if possible) to revitalize the soul.
A pinch of ground bark from a dream tree to calm down.
Whites of a large screecher egg to revive the warrior spirit.
Preparing the ingredients
- Obtaining the dragon newt tail. While this isnt a particularly dangerous beast I still recommend taking necessary procautions against its fire breath. For additional information on hunting a dragon newt see The Hunters Encyclopedia by James Ruckenhous. To prepare this ingredient you will need to place it in a pot of boiling water until the color drains. From there, leave it to dry in the sun. If this is not possible, a fire place will work as an alterative as long as it doesn't get cooked. When dry, grind into a fine dust with a mortar and pestle.
- To prepare the storm wolf fangs simply grind it in mortar and pestle until fine. To retrieve this component, I recommend using a stone skin potion and luring some storm wolves to bite you. This will in most cases damage the teeth potentially knocking some out. (Don't wear clothes you deem valuable because they will be damaged heavily.) Again to find storm wolves consult The Hunters Encyclopedia once again.
- For a weaker potion the mistbloom is already in a usable state without modification however, if you want a stronger potion mix the petals with water and grind until you get a thick paste. The mistbloom grows naturally in warmer climates such as south eastern Neandria, and on most of the Island Republic of Arion. To be grown outside of regions like this it is often advised to use a warming charm on your garden, and spray water regularly to keep humid.
- Spirit roots can be found in most markets pre-ground, but to get the full strength grow it yourself in your garden and grind it yourself with a mortar and pestle. Since the root is native to more northern countries, and some of the west during winter, you must keep these plants in an area with low humidity and an extremely low temperature (under -4 degrees Celsius and above -8 degrees Celsius). But, make sure to keep these far from the mistbloom to prevent cross breeding which can result in a highly poisonous flower known as rootmist bloom. This flower is difficult to tell apart at a glance from mistbloom, but if accidentally created you can distinguish the plants by the roots. The roots of a mistbloom are a dark red, while the roots of a rootmist bloom are a deep purple.
- to procure the dream tree bark, you can grow it at home, but as it is a dangerous and ethically dubious due to the feralization process requiring bone marrow of a dream imp which are intelligent beings with strong charm magic making it a challenge even for the most expirienced alchemists. I personally advise going to a herbalist for this ingredient and grinding it yourself.
- The screecher egg is extraordinarily challenging to acquire so to obtain it I recommend seeing a beast breeder to see if they have any for sale if possible. But if you desire to get one from the wild, I recommend waiting until the mother screecher goes hunting to try your luck at snatching it. But, I reiterate, this is not what I would personally do and don't recommend it. Once the egg is acquired, separate the whites and the yolk. Mix the whites until thick.
Mixing
From here simply put your ingredients into a liter of boiling water and mix until all ingredients are dissolved. After mixing let the mixture cool for 1.5 hours. After cooling run the mixture through a strainer to separate undissolved mistbloom if they weren't turned to paste.
Usages
This potion can of course heal a variety of wounds, depending on the quality but it can also cure simple illnesses like drawt fever and hog-hives. However, this potion has no use as an antivenom .
