Jim walked without stopping, as he tended to do. He watched the chaos around him: the ground cracking, meteors hitting the tops of skyscrapers, probably aliens or some such nonsense. He always wondered how it was going to go down in the very end: he supposed it was a nice show. Nothing really surprised him anymore, even the stuff he'd been looking forward to since literally the beginning of time. Well, not nothing. The boy Jim had just spotted about fifty yards from him doing the same thing he was doing surprised him a fair amount.
"Oi, what are you doing out this late at night?"
The boy ignored him and sat down, his eyes alight with the fires consuming the moon. Jim walked over and sat down next to the boy, perhaps admiring the genuine look of awe on the boy's face, perhaps envying it. This must have been his first time out this close to morning.
