Paraurban Exploration Introduction
Exploration is one of the driving forces of the human spirit; without it we would still be in our caves huddling around a non-existent fire. Everyone wants to explore, even though almost everything on Earth has been explored (Exceptions include the oceans and some of the arctic). Urban exploration as of late has become popular around the young. Seeing a sight with your own eyes is a feeling you can’t miss. The joy of taking it all in around you, as you stand in massive buildings, interiors, and natural beauties is a feeling that can’t be fully explained. However Urban Exploring (or Urbex) usually mundane, reality follows the rules of its own existence and the decay of dreams and dashed hopes hangs metaphorically in the air. In Paraurban Exploring the decay of dreams is as tangible as your own flesh and blood.
Paraurban Exploring is the exploration of abandoned paraurban areas and buildings. Often the use of portal or some type of anomalous doorway is needed to reach a location. Not all paraurban sites are outside of reality, some still exist in our reality. Some have grown non-paranormal over time, often the result of the Suits overbearing presents. Like all exploring there is risk of the Law. In our case the Suits, the Suits consist of several groups working to decrease our access to anomalous world. In Urbex likely consequences are fines or imprisonment. In Paraurbex the risk increases with likely consequences being imprisonment or death. It is not to be taken lightly.
How to Paraurban Explore
Here are some rules I created to keep future Paraubran Explorers safe.
1.Don’t go alone.
Bring a Friend. They will keep you company and help avoid the Suits. Tell a friend that’s not exploring with you when your going, when your going, and when you plan to be back. They should be there when you return and if you don’t they should get help.
2.Prepare for unexpected dangers.
Bring a Map (non digital), Flashlight and batteries, Notepad, cellphone, and a days supply of food and water. Since the sites are paranormal, prepare to encounter paranormal entities. Know which ones you can and can’t deal with.
Respect the site and the people around it.
3.Don’t talk to strangers. Some are reality benders, others are the Suits disguided.
People don’t go to abandoned paraubran sites just because. At the site don’t litter and steal. Some sites will violently attack if provoked.
4.Avoid the Suits.
The Suits are the main thing to avoid when Paraurban Exploring. Encountering them will often result in imprisonment or death. Get help when needed. The best help is from the Wanderers of the Wanderer’s Library. Some of them know how to deal with the Suits, and will help you out(look for members of the Serpent's Hand). The Library can often act as a safe house, since the Suits cannot usually enter it.
Known Places to Visit
How to enter the Three Portlands is widely known so I only cover how to enter other cities in this Blog.
Place: “The Death Can” , Three Portlands.
History: The “Death Can” started out in 1956 as the Earl’s Canning Factory. The factory produced anomalous canned foods such as, Never Moldy Bread, Color Changing Oreos, and Non-Existant Meatloaf(The last one was to die for !). Due to the fact it was in the Three Portlands, workers were hard to come by. So the owner Earl Kabob resorted to kidnapping homeless persons for his staff. Expectedly this did not end well and many died in the machinery, earning its nickname “The Death Can”. The usually lax police force of the Three Portlands stepped in to stop the factory in 1985.
Exploration Tips: Avoid the machinery, as it can start and stop randomly. The basement is off-limits as paranormal black mold has grown there. It’s ability to penetrate the filters of respirators has made such equipment useless. The office and staff cafeteria has some nice picture moments.
Place: “Ghetto Apartments”, Three Portlands.
History: Not much is known about this building as it just appeared in 1978. No one has ever claimed to live here, as the building appeared abandoned when it showed up in 1978.
Exploration Tips: Time your visit to the “Ghetto Apartments” as the building likes to disappear in 1 hour intervals. The B staircase is dangerously rotting, so don’t use it. Otherwise a good beginner's site.
Place: “Ghostbusters HQ”, Three Portlands.
History: In 1980 a startup by the name of “Ecto-Movers” was headquartered here. The Company tried to offer services for the movement of Ghosts and Spirits. As the Three Portlands is welcoming to all the weirdness of the world, the company didn’t go over well with residents. A protest made up of the city's Ghosts forced the company to close its doors in 1982.
Exploration Tips: Beware of the power lines as power still is connected to this site. Research Lab-B should be avoided as black mold has bred with ectoplasm causing a sentient blob. Research Lab-A, Offices, and Containment Unit offer some picturesque views.
Place : “Library”, North St.Paul.
How to Enter: Go to Theodore Wirth Park, take the Mississippi River Trail to its end. Then Find the tallest tree. Bend the Branch nearest to the ground. Once done you should teleport to North St.Paul’s visitor center.
History: The Library was constructed in 1935 as the Elizabeth Ashworth Public Library. It served the North St. Paul area until 1964 when a massive Psi-Energy pulse caused all paterons to freeze in place. This effect has continued to this day as all patrons are still frozen in time.
Exploration Tips: This site poses no threats to the explorer, except from the danger of the suits.
