I snuck through the bakery, I was not afraid. The bakery was a small one story building, large windows, not the most ideal choice, but this was a very dark night. Ever since the new guards came everyone changed, no one wanted to give food anymore, or let me sleep in their stables, people yelled at me for sleeping on the street, honestly where am I supposed to sleep? In the dump? Under the bridge with the drug users?
I hated stealing, some of my friends did this awhile ago, they got away clean but the old guards found them, since they where kids the guards only gave them a warning. I haven't eaten in 3 weeks, I need to eat, this bakery is owned by the rich, they probably wont miss anything. The money under the counter looks tempting but I'm only taking what I need. The display case also looks tempting but the store owner, a fat man named Mr. Levins, would notice if something is missing. I'm going to have to work harder for some food.
I sneak into the back of the store, where a large locked cold-room resides. Good thing I prepared for this, as I pull 2 small pieces of metal out of my pocket and push one into the round keyhole, the second I slip into the small crack where the lock meets the door. I'm pretty confident, my friend Meyer used to do this for a living and he showed me how, until he was caught by the new guards 3 days ago. He showed me these locks have a flaw, if you push sideways inside the lock, while pushing out with a flat piece of metal you can pop the whole lock assembly right off. Working with this technique in mind the lock begins to slip loose from the door. With a loud crack it gives way and I catch it before it hits the ground.
The cold-room is piled with bread, of all shapes and sizes. After much deliberation I settle for a loaf of bread dotted with little raisins behind a large stack. After taking a large bite I slip out of the cold-room. Oh no the lock! Meyer showed me how to remove a lock, but not how to put it back on. Well it cant be too hard I assume, I push it straight in, to no avail, it wont fit for some reason. After several minutes of straining it suddenly snaps into place. That wasn't too hard.
Clang! What was that?! Looking down I notice that one of my crude lock picks had fallen on the ground, I scoop it up and make haste towards the door. A light shines through the window! I hide behind the counter and wrap both arms around the bread.
"Who's in there!?" Yells a gruff voice.
Oh god, a guard, I don't want to get caught, after what i heard about the new guards. I hear the guards skeleton key turning in the lock. I turn and run towards the side door I came in from. A large hand clamps down on my arm. I turn my head just as a baton comes down towards it. The world fades to black.
