where is this place? this question is perpetually on their mind, the nth cycle of events set in motion at the end of a long journey.
the feeling of being lost is something that’s overly familiar to miko; this universe is not one that is meant to be navigated with their… unique perspective. their eyes are sharp, and they take a second to fully process their surroundings, the predicament of being unable to move freely something they are also used to.
the architectural patterns of the apparent city they are standing in stirs a vague memory in the back of their mind; they are sure they have seen this before. yet, there is a feeling of alienation that they can’t shake. the inhabitants are split equally between species they recognise and don’t. for some reason, miko daren’t move- this time seems like a foreboding edge like they are standing on the precipice off a cliff. for once, they have no desire to keep going forward in time, the cat, for once, instinctually avoiding death.
is this the end? a treacherous notion, an almost existential fear rears it’s ugly head. time goes on forever… doesn’t it? like space, time’s plane of existence stretches on to infinity. miko rationalises it as fear; like how someone would shy away from the edge of the cliff, even if they knew there was no chance of temptation to jump.
the archivist seated behind the desk the might’ve noticed there was something wrong, or maybe not. miko is particularly paranoid at the present moment; though, given their circumstances, who wouldn’t be?
“um. hi.” she awkwardly raises a hand in greeting, before thinking better of it and lowering it. “i am looking for a book on… time travel.” miko shifts in place, in a stance that could either be interpreted as them needing to pee, or that they were hiding something.
it was hopefully probably the second option. miko hopes they’re not attracting the attention of the dogents, with the suspicious way she’s acting. then again, it’s not like she has done anything wrong… miko wouldn’t know anyhow. in fact, they are fairly sure this has never happened to anyone before, in any of the infinite universes out there. wait, if there are infinite universes and timelines, wouldn’t that mean this has happened infinite times?
library card please. the archivist says, expectantly. miko jumps, brought back to the present. she sticks her hand in her pocket and rummages around sheepishly.
“here.” she places an amalgamation of what appears to be a feather, a ball of twine, lego and several rubber bands holding everything together on the desk. a sticker depicting a cartoon snake, stuck haphazardly on the side, falls off from the motion.
the archivist doesn’t bat an eye. mostly because it didn’t have eyes. but if it had eyes, it probably wouldn’t have even blinked. unusual library cards for an unusual library. picking up the “card”, it makes a motion with one of it’s many limbs across the top that makes miko dizzy to watch, and a rune burns itself into the ball of twine.
when it hands her library card back, miko sheepishly sticks the fallen sticker back on. the archivist gives her a judgemental look, which is again, pretty impressive considering it doesn’t have eyes. it seems to be capable of a lot of things, that it really shouldn’t be. except movement. miko stifles a laugh. she does not want to know what the archivist would have done to her if she had laughed.
you will find our section on time travel by following these directions. the archivist fishes a piece of paper from somewhere behind the desk and slides it over the counter.
“thank you.” miko says cheerily, picking it up and turning to peer at the piece of paper
the who, what, when, where, why, and how to writing miko !!!
honestly if you write something for her i will love u forever and give u a kiss -3-
who: miko is an observer. she interacts with the universe in a very strange way; she is locked movement in one dimension of time and two dimensions of space.
what: stories by her are in the form of a journal! anachronistic for a universe with ftl travel and the like, but who cares? anachronism feels like home for them
when: anyplace, anytime :)
why: because she's cool. because i'm cool. because you're cool. are we cool yet
how: there is no um, format for her because i cant css. she writes in 3rd person in her journals. do note that her stories don't nessesarily have to be journals written by her :)
