Howler Mushrooms (Laruairavit muscaria)
An inedible type of flathead mushroom that grows along decaying walls and humid, hidden nooks. It makes a strange noise when an organism gets near it, one that's been compared to distant, distressed screaming from some another side of a wall. Heresay rumors state that they absorb souls that perish near them, but paramycologists of the Library rebuke that as nonsense and fearmongering. Most theorize this is just to warn whatever organism is near it that it is inedible and to not disturb its mycelium. Young mushrooms are faintly purple with a cyan bioluminescent glow that radiates five hundred lumens. When it fully matures, the glow turns white. While the mushroom is inedible, ancient scholars used to use the Howler mushroom as a sort of medical ingredient in salves. Its contents have a faint healing effect and has been used in salves for centuries, but both the juices and skin can be toxic if consumed orally. Distantly related to L. solis.
