"So what could you tell me about your home?", I ask the old man.

"Balsevain is a fairly quaint coastal town. One would claim this place to be "boring". To prove their word, there is almost nothing of particular interest here. If you aren't counting the altar to goddess Selene in the outskirts, that is. Any traveler who does come to this city usually is headed to the harbor, to cross the sea. But there is the occasional visitor who stops by the altar to pay his tribute. It definitely has been a while since I left there, not too much work there for a farmer. You… Seem to be an interesting lad, I think you should stop by. Let the town elder know that I sent you. Have this map."
He then stood up, mumbled something about keeping well in the times, and left.

I wouldn't exactly call the walk to Balsevain as an easy one. I appreciate the map that the old man gave me for two reasons. One, I am a collector. And two, the man exactly knew my profession and knows that I wouldn't be able to get to the place without it. He knew that any other map wouldn't mention this town in it. Talk about being cursed.

I reached the town hall and met up with the elder. Had a long chat about myself, and about the farmer who sent me here. The elder talked about the people who come here. They usually would be a trader coming to sell his wares, or a weary traveler who rests for the night and goes on his way through the harbor to cross the seas and rarely, a fanatic who comes to worship the goddess. But me, I am none of that. And the elder realized it. At the conclusion of our talks, he asked me to visit the home of the priestess.

The priestess Viktorija stayed in a tiny home close to the city center. From what I could see, she seemed to be pretty popular, teaching the locals and helping them out with their problems. I waited until the crowd thinned out. She called out to me, and I walked up to her.

"O mysterious traveler, you seek the knowledge of the vastness, don't you?"

I expected nothing less from a wise woman. She knew the reason why a person like me would even come this far to this town. Or maybe, every person whom I met along my journey to here knew, and I was too blind to not notice it.

"Yes. I want to visit the true city."

"What calls you to learn "

"Many have come before you, and many will follow you. Your learning will remain with you, and you will remain with your learning. Go to the well of the moon, and descend into it. Believe in her, and she will guide you."

I go to the altar of Selene, and look into a well. It was more of a pit, considering I could see the bottom, and there wasn't any water in it. I set aside my belongings, bow before the idol and start climbing down. I misstep.

Darkness.
Darkness.
Darkness.

Bright light.
My fall is halted and I am jostled. I stand up, look around. This is Balsevain, but everything is now changed. The pathways, the buildings, the beings that were roaming with absolutely no heed to my presence, everything was white. I was the only creature there who seemed out of place. I hear Viktorija speak, but I cannot see her.

"This is the definition of order. Symmetry. Purity. How your world could be if everything resisted change, and how the world used to be before. You have to prove yourself worthy to stay in this place. To become a caretaker of the order. To unify with this world."

Our world heads away from orderliness as every moment passes by. This place truly was the beginning, a figment of our past, now forgotten. And nothing in the present time can ever become one with the truth of the town.
