Item: SCP-####
Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-#### is to be contained in a cell 20 meters by 20 meters wide with the floor mounted on 20 ton capacity vibration isolation mounts. No SCPs that are susceptible to vibration damage are to be kept in the same physical building.
Personnel working at the facility that houses SCP-#### are to be screened for known variants of Portuguese DNA and all personnel are to be questioned about their family history prior to being transferred to the site. Any personnel with any genetic or family history of living in or around Portugal are not to work on or be allowed near SCP-####.
Testing must be approved by the Site Supervisor and cannot be conducted within any building housing or physically connected to any building housing any other SCP artifact.
Description: SCP-#### is a pair of knee-breeches believed to originate from Western Europe in the mid-18th century. The color has is faded, but careful examination estimates the original color as a very dark brown with gold patterns that can no longer be distinguished. There is remarkably little damage to the fibers themselves considering their age.
SCP-#### has shown itself to be immune from any kinetic damage. Tests with scissors and knives have been unable to cut the cloth and crushing has no effect on the fibers. Chemical damage appears to affect SCP-#### as normal.
When within 9.4 meters of a human of Portuguese descent, any structure containing SCP-#### will undergo an earthquake at an estimated 8.95 an the Richter scale. Despite the magnitude of the earthquake, damage to the structure is always minimal, though items and personnel inside can be damaged as normal under such forces.
Test Log:
Subject: D-5379 (half Portuguese on his mother's side, verified with DNA test)
Protocol: Subject issued a safety harness secured to 60 meters of rope. Subject directed to go into building holding SCP-####, wait 15 minutes and come out. Building has been cleared of any objects other than the subject and the SCP itself.
Results: Building began shaking 27 seconds after subject crossed the 9.4 meter threshold. The entrance door slammed shut, apparently from the movement of the structure itself. After 30 minutes test personnel opened the door and pulled the rope to extract the subject from the building. Subject was deceased, autopsy revealed multiple head injuries that corresponded to bloody marks on the walls of the structure. The structure was otherwise undamaged.
Conclusion: While it is suspicious that the door was closed, injuries corresponded to what would be expected of an earthquake of that magnitude with no supports or restraints. Seismographs placed within the test structure measured motion of roughly 8.9 on the Richter scale.
Subject: D-9832 (third generation Portuguese, verified with DNA test)
Protocol: Subject issued a safety harness, rope, and construction helmet. Subject directed to go into building holding SCP-####, wait 15 minutes and come out. Building has been cleared of any objects other than the subject and the SCP itself. Door has been temporarily removed.
Results: Subject entered the building and strode towards SCP-####. The earthquake started soon after the Subject passed the 9.4 meter distance from SCP-####. Subject was thrown around the room, slamming into walls and floor as would be normal for such a high magnitude earthquake. The interior of the building also suffered catastrophic damage, shedding concrete sections of walls, floor, and ceiling after only a minute of the intense shaking. Subject survived for much longer than initial subject because of head protection, but was eventually crushed under a section of falling wall.
Researchers extracted subject’s body using the rope. As the body crossed the activation threshold the rubble from the walls and ceiling were quickly shattered into small pieces only to disappear moments later. New supportive grids were laid into the damaged walls and ceiling from an unseen source and concrete was poured into the holes. Within approximately 20 seconds, and before the subject's body reached the doorway, the walls and floor were repaired to appear exactly as they were before the subject entered the building. Tests conducted on these repaired sections showed a reinforced concrete mix that was estimated to be roughly twice as resistant to shear forces as the original concrete.
Conclusion: SCP-#### does much more damage than originally estimated, but also appears to anomalously repair all damage extremely quickly to be even better than before.
Subject: D-8391 (not genetically Portuguese, but was a Portuguese citizen at time of arrest and imprisonment)
Protocol: Subject issued a safety harness, rope, and construction helmet. Subject directed to go into building holding SCP-####, quickly put on the breeches, and wait 15 minutes and come out. Building has been cleared of any objects other than the subject and the SCP itself. Door has been temporarily removed.
Results: Subject entered the building and walked towards SCP-####. As she passed the point of activation the shaking began as before. Subject then ran towards SCP-#### and quickly pulled them on over her own jeans (subject had been determined to be several sizes smaller than the size of SCP-#### so that it would be easy to get on). The quaking continued as before, but while subject was tossed around she was never injured by always missing or being thrown clear of any danger. After 15 minutes subject obediently removed the breeches and staggered beyond the activation line without further incident. As in previous tests the damage was anomalously repaired before subject reached the door.
Conclusion: It appears that directly wearing SCP-#### conveys some level of protection from its affects. This will have to be confirmed with future tests. Subject's lack of direct Portuguese ancestry means that anyone with a direct link to Portugal might have the ability to set off the effects of SCP-####.
Subject: D-5489 (not genetically Portuguese, but was a Portuguese citizen at time of arrest and imprisonment)
Protocol: Duplicate of test conducted with D-8391 with a male subject.
Results: Results were exactly the same as previous test. Subject was anomalously thrown clear of any damage and left after the expected time period without damage.
Conclusion: This confirms that SCP-#### appears to protect its wearer from its own effects. Future tests should be run to see if it also protects against external threats such as a bullet fired from outside of its area of effect.
Note: Further testing was interrupted by a severe outbreak of SCP-217 among the barracks used to house the D-class subjects for the facility. The infection was spread among all D-class personnel before the outbreak was noticed. All D-class were determined to be infected save only D-8391 and D-5489, both of whom were shown on camera to make contact with several other infected personnel. It is theorized that SCP-#### might have made subjects immune to some or all diseases after use. Investigation is ongoing.
